On February 22, 2013, Asbury Park closed on the financing needed to replace our current Assisted Living building and construct two more Green House homes. We also refinanced our existing debt that was used to build the four Green House Homes currently on our campus. Hutton Construction, Law/Kingdon Architecture, Emprise Bank, and the United State Department of Agriculture Rural Development Division have been working diligently with us for more than a year to make this a reality. All of this could not have happened without the presence of God in our midst throughout the process. We continue to give glory to God in all that we do in providing good care and housing that is safe, comfortable, and welcoming to our elders and their guests.

March 1, the construction trailer arrived on site with prep work beginning. Asbury Park did not want anything to go to waste. We have allowed a group of volunteers from the ReUse It Center in McPherson to salvage a large portion of the windows. In addition, the Harvey County Habitat for Humanity volunteers were able to come in and take any remaining fixtures.

The week of March 11 the front parking lot was completely removed and a temporary parking lot was installed near the Health Care Entrance on 12th St. Attached please find a site plan showing the portion of campus that will be “closed” and where we will have additional temporary parking during the construction process. Beginning the week of March 18 the actual building is being razed.

During demolition and construction, Asbury Park will continue to provide care for more than 200 individuals on its campus, including 24-hour skilled nursing care, assisted living services, rental cottages and patio homes for independent living, home health care and community child care center.

Let the excitement begin!

Visit us on Facebook and watch our progress as we prepare for the future!

* Full Time / All Day Child Care & Preschool

(center opened 5:45 am to 6:00 pm)

* Part Time Preschool on Tuesdays & Thursdays from 8:30 am to 11:30 am

Asbury Station Child Care Center was established in May 2010 and continues to grow on Asbury Park’s campus. All classrooms were relocated to the long hall beneath Evergreen in the Main Health Care building in October 2012 . With this move, they were able to increase their license to serve 43 children ages 12-months-and-walking through 5 years. The recent expansion is allowing them to serve more children and there is NOT a waiting list at this time.

Asbury Station strives to educate and nurture every child that comes through their program with a well rounded developmentally appropriate curriculum. They provide kindergarten readiness by studying letters, numbers, shapes, colors and themes through writing, music, art and science activities. They also participate daily in several different types of intergenerational activities such as cooking, share time, craft projects, story times, and music and movement. Both Asbury Park and Asbury Station feel that it is very important to bridge the gap between the generations by fostering the relationships between the youth and the elderly.

Asbury Park assumed ownership of Asbury Station Child Care Center on January 2, 2013. Come check us out! Contact Kasey Newell or Missy Ratzlaff at (316) 283-4770 ext. 177 for more information or to schedule a tour. Contact us for current openings and enrollment.

As part of our 50th Anniversary festivities, we will be celebrating with a Ground Breaking Ceremony as we move forward into Asbury Park’s next 50 years. The Ground Breaking Ceremony, scheduled for 10:30am on Friday, November 16, 2012, will be held in our main parking lot at 200 SW 14th Street. An additional celebration that day is an Open House for our newest Universally Designed Patio Home located at 404 SW 12th St. The open house will begin immediately following the ground breaking ceremony and continue until 1pm.

Asbury Park’s construction project includes replacement of its existing assisted living building with a new 36,466 square-foot Assisted Living Center, construction of two additional Green House Homes for individuals requiring 24-hour skilled nursing services, and remodeling the first floor of Asbury Park’s Health Care Center to include a 12-bed Post-Acute Care Unit.

USDA Rural Development has partnered with Asbury Park in this project by providing an $11 million Community Facilities Direct Loan, a $4.45 million Community Facilities Guaranteed Loan, and a $702,500 Rural Economic Development Loan. Additional partners with Asbury Park and the USDA in this project are Emprise Bank of Wichita, Butler Rural Electric Cooperative Association, Law-Kingdon Architecture, and Hutton Construction.

In preparation for the demolition and construction to begin, offices and a work room were relocated from Aspen Assisted Living to Cottonwood Assisted Living on October 26. For security purposes all entry doors into Aspen will now remain locked. The main entrance into the facility is now temporarily located under the burgundy-red awning in the Health Care parking lot located at 200 SW 12th St.

Great Plains Asbestos Control Company of Kearney, Nebraska, will begin asbestos abatement from the Aspen Building on November 12th. This will allow Hutton Construction to begin the demolition of the building immediately following closing on the financing which we hope to occur in mid-November.

Thank you for your prayers and support as we go through this process…it will be worth it!

Topeka, KS, August 24, 2012 — Asbury Park Inc., a not-for-profit continuing care retirement community in Newton, KS, has received a $16.2 million boost from USDA Rural Development to help finance a large construction and renovation project on its 34-acre campus. The funding will ensure Asbury Park can continue to provide a high level of quality care to its residents.

“USDA Rural Development partners with rural Kansas communities to invest federal funds into projects that provide a benefit to the community,” said USDA Rural Development State Director Patty Clark. “Asbury Park is creating a better quality of life for its current and future residents, and providing a vital service to the community.”

The project includes replacement of Asbury Park’s existing assisted living building with a new 36,466 square-foot Assisted Living Facility. The new facility includes a secured assisted living area as well as the traditional assisted living model. Two additional Green House Homes for individuals requiring 24-hour skilled nursing services will be built, and the first floor of Asbury Park’s Health Care Center will be remodeled to include a Post-Acute Care Unit.

Asbury Park has been assisting elderly individuals in Newton for 50 years. The organization is a leader in elderly healthcare and provides services to more than 200 individuals, including 24-hour skilled nursing care, assisted living services, rental cottages and patio homes for independent living, and home health.

“Asbury Park is blessed to have obtained a partnership with the USDA Rural Development program that makes this major transition possible for the environmental benefit of our current residents and future residents. These new environments on our campus will be state of the art, positioning us for changes in our national and statewide health care systems,” said Asbury Park CEO Tom Williams.

USDA Rural Development provided an $11 million Community Facilities Direct Loan, a $4.45 million Community Facilities Guaranteed Loan, and a $702,500 Rural Economic Development Loan. Emprise Bank in Wichita and Butler Rural Electric Cooperative Association partnered with USDA Rural Development to make funding available for the project. Law-Kingdon Architecture and Hutton Construction have been selected to complete the project.

For additional information regarding this and other USDA Rural Development programs visit the Agency’s website http://www.rurdev.usda.gov/KS, or call the Agency’s state office at 785-271-2700.

USDA, through its Rural Development mission area, administers and manages housing, business and community infrastructure and facility programs through a national network of state and local offices. Rural Development has an existing portfolio of more than $172 billion in loans and loan guarantees. These programs are designed to improve the economic stability of rural communities, businesses, residents, farmers and ranchers and improve the quality of life in rural America.
