Wellness At Asbury Park
Aegis Therapies and Nautilus have joined together to develop Freedom Through Functionality, a unique strength building program for the elderly. It is modeled after a clinical study proving that the most effective way to increase elders' independence and functionality is through a regular program of strength building. Freedom Through Functionality is designed to benefit elder outcome and quality of life. Asbury Park was the first facility in the state of Kansas to offer the Freedom Through Functionality program!
Snoezelen Room
A beautiful place with bubbling columns in one corner, scenes projected onto the walls, soft music, and the scent of lavender in the air... A place to relax, free of the worries of the outside world... A place where it is enough to "just be", without the need to do anything.
Snoezelen is a philosophy of care involving the stimulation of all senses-sight, hearing, smell, taste and touch. A Snoezelen environment is designed to stimulate the senses without the need for intellectual activity.
Trust and relaxation are encouraged via non-directive therapy. The word "Snoezelen" is a term coined from two Dutch words meaning "to sniff" and "to doze". The Snoezelen concept was originally developed in Holland.
Inter-Generational Programming
The New Creation Preschool is located on the Asbury Park campus providing an opportunity for elders and children to interact on a daily basis. The interaction encourages the residents to feel younger and energized. It grants the elders the opportunity to interact with not only other elders, but teachers and young children. Elders feel that they still have the ability to nurture and educate during the intergenerational programs. Asbury Park and New Creation Preschool have created a remarkable partnership for the benefit of the elders and the children.
